Haha, alright. I liked him at first when he was the aloof playboy, although I was kind of like, “Welp, this character’s a little been-there-done-that.” (I was weary about a lot of the victors in that regard at first when reading CF.) And then when he and Katniss were having their faceoff at the Cornucopia, I was kind of hoping she’d kill him, for the dramz. But then he had Haymitch’s band!!! I liked him better throughout the course of the book, particularly his reaction to Mags, etc., with the crying on the beach. I felt he was super shady though, like “boy wtf are u doin” because he didn’t even know Katniss and he was basically breaking his back for her. When they all get picked up by the Hovercraft, I raged at him/Haymitch for being dicks and using Katniss again.
Actually I’m going to gif this bitch.

“You can swim, too. Where did you learn that in District Twelve?”
“I look in his eyes, at his face, and realize he’s barely holding back tears.”

As one yanks back his head to take the death bite, something bizarre happens. It’s as if I’m Finnick, watching images of my life flash by. The mast of a boat, a silver parachute, Mags laughing, a pink sky, Beetee’s trident, Annie in her wedding dress, waves breaking over rocks. Then it’s over.

I assumed Johanna was fine, had passed her exam, but simply wasn’t assigned to a sharpshooters’ unit. She’s wicked throwing an ax but about average with a gun. “Is she hurt? What happened?”
“It was while she was on the Block. They try to ferret out a soldier’s potential weaknesses. So they flooded the street,” says Haymitch.
This doesn’t help. Johanna can swim. At least, I seem to remember her swimming around some in the Quarter Quell. Not like Finnick, of course, but none of us are like Finnick. “So?”
“That’s how they tortured her in the Capitol. Soaked her and then used electric shocks,” says Haymitch.
Not my ideal casting for Johanna or Finnick, but this is awesome.
